Vantech Media Help Sheet

Setting up Outlook Express for your new email alias

We suggest that you print this sheet.

How it works

You use your existing email account with your current ISP just as you did before but your incoming mail goes to our powerful mail server where it is instantly diverted to your existing account.

Advantages

You have a professional, easy to remember email address. You can change your ISP at any time and as often as you like without having to distribute your new address. You must of course tell us your new address.

What you must do

Change some simple settings in Outlook Express. If you use other email software please consult its help section.

How to do it

  1. Start Outlook Express
  2. Click on the 'Tools' menu
  3. Click 'Accounts...'
  4. Click the 'Mail' tab (a list of mail accounts appears)
  5. Select the account you wish to use with your alias (in most cases this will be the one marked 'default')
  6. Click the 'Properties' button
  7. Check that the 'General' tab is selected
  8. In the 'E-mail address' box carefully type your new alias address e.g. me@mydomain.co.uk
  9. If there is an entry in the 'Reply address' box replace it with your new alias address e.g. me@mydomain.co.uk (otherwise leave it blank)
  10. Click 'OK'
  11. Click 'Close'

You must test your new settings!

The easiest way is to send an email to yourself (using the new alias) then, when you receive that message, reply to it (using the 'reply to sender' command).

You can always send us a message just to be sure - nigel@vantech.co.uk.
