Procedure for requesting a UKERNA domain

If you wish to register one of these names you must satisfy UKERNA that you are entitled to do so. We can only register names on your behalf if you host the site on our servers or purchase a forwarding plan.

We can only accept requests from UK organisations.

Our DIY hosting plan allows you to FTP or publish your own pages and configure web and mail settings through a personal control panel. If your site is less likely to require regular updates or email changes then use our standard hosting plan where we take care of settings and uploads. Of course the easiest option is to use our design services and allow us to take total care of your web site and email.

Checklist

First you need to verify that your organisation is likely to be accepted using the naming guidelines.

Gather all the information required for completion of our on-line application form and carefully add your details. On submission, text will be generated that can be pasted into a letter to be printed on your organisation's official stationery. This should be saved until we have processed your request. We will confirm within 48 hours whether your request is properly completed and advise you to fax the saved document to UKERNA.

DO NOT fax UKERNA until we have asked you to do so.

Once we have forwarded your request to UKERNA they aim to process your request within five working days.

Possible outcomes

Your request will be either ACCEPTED or REJECTED.

Rejected applications

If your request is rejected we will ascertain the reasons and, if appropriate, help you make a new request.

Accepted applications

If accepted, UKERNA will point the domain to our nameservers and we will create a suitable hosting account for you.

Once your domain is up and running we will invoice you for the initial domain registration fee and one year's hosting fee.

Please pay promptly

As we are paying the registration fee on your behalf and charging you virtually at cost, we appreciate prompt payment. After two years the domain will be subject to a regular two-yearly maintenance fee.
